KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE!
For the past couple of months I've become a big fan of Russell Brunson, cofounder of Click Funnels. Today I was listening to his podcast, if you don't know me you should know that when I discover a new podcast, I like to listen from the beginning. I guess I don't like to miss anything, so this episode was from sometime in 2017, and it was pretty short. Basically it was just a short clip from a mastermind event Russell put together. On this clip, JLD from Entrepreneurs on Fire Podcast, was talking about the importance of knowing your audience. For me this is important because for the last few months I've been working on developing a new podcast, my first podcast, and I've been researching the subjects I want to focus on and the audience I want to have.
So, JLD was basically saying that it is very important to create an "avatar" of the ideal listener. The way he described his ideal listener was pretty impressive. He knew exactly who the listener was and this helps him create specific content for that listener. I mean, he had it down to the age, and family type. I never thought of it before, but it makes so much sense. It makes sense with podcasts and it makes sense with marketing films. Actually it makes sense with all types of marketing.
Who is your ideal client?
I'm willing to bet most of you will have a pretty wide range. For a long time I would say my ideal client was someone who runs a business and needs marketing, or someone who is looking for a portrait photographer, or someone who is looking for a wedding filmmaker, or someone who is looking for a cinematographer for feature films or... well you get the point. The truth is that even though all those jobs I just mentioned are related, they are very different markets, and by trying to market to all of them at the same time, I was wasting a ton of money and time.
So, what's the point?
Know who your audience is, so you can market specifically to their needs. This will increase your profits and save you a lot of money and time.
